Danforth Village Homes

As a current resident of Danforth Village, I am excited to present this exciting and vibrant neighbourhood to you. The convenience of the Bloor-Danforth subway line makes this neighbourhood an excellent choice for home buyers. Young professionals and families alike have made this neighbourhood a hub of activity ranging from art exhibits, jazz performances, street festivals and children’s activities in the local parks. Of course, the nearby shops along The Danforth make running errands a breeze!

Danforth Village extends from Greenwood Ave. to the west and Victoria Park to the east. The northern boundary of Danforth Village borders East York and includes a few streets north of the Danforth and travels south to the railway tracks which are located just north of Gerrard St.

Homes

The typical Danforth Village home was built in the 1920’s and 1930’s. North of the Danforth, the streets are lined with semi-detached houses, many of which have been beautifully renovated. South of the Danforth, the homes range in size and style from Victorian semis, to bungalows and newer townhouses. In general, they are an extension of the home styles found in the neighbouring communities namely East York and the Upper Beaches. Homes in Danforth Village have seen increased demand in recent years and excellent appreciation.

Transportation

In addition transit, residents have easy access to Lakeshore Blvd via Woodbine Ave, access to the DVP long O’Connor and access to Bloor St E by driving west along Danforth Ave. The Go Train Station located at Main St and Danforth Ave. provides residents with yet another option for travel.

History

The lands north of Danforth Ave. belonged to the Church of England and the land to the south was once farmland.

Schools

With 2 nearby elementary schools, two Catholic elementary schools, 2 High Schools, and 2 libraries, this area is well served. Centennial College's Warden Woods Campus is nearby, and University of Toronto is accessed via the Bloor-Danforth subway, and York University's Glendon Campus is to the north on Bayview Rd.

Shopping

Along Danforth Avenue are many shops and restaurants, especially serving local Greek clientele. The Shoppers World mall (Victoria Park & Danforth) offers a range shops including a grocery store, pharmacy, gym and retail space.

Recreation

Monarch Park, located south of the Danforth between Coxwell and Greenwood features a variety of recreational facilities including an artificial ice rink, a wading pool, and a swimming pool. The Earl Beattie Community Centre on Woodington Avenue just north of the Danforth has an indoor swimming pool, and a gymnasium and is home to many Parks and Recreation programs offered by the City. The Danforth/Coxwell library also keep local toddler and preschool aged children engaged with numerous literacy programs. The popular toddler drop-in centre at Kimbourne United Church is a favourite with local parents and kids alike. Neighbouring Taylor Creek Park provides a paves recreation trail that has something for everyone! This nature trail is ideal for walking, jogging and cycling and includes many nice picnic spots. Dentonia Golf Course which is located just east of Victoria Park Ave and is literally outside the subway station. It’s described as a challenging par 3 course and a great place to practice your short game.
