Todmorden Village Homes

The scenic village of Todmorden Village is located east of the Don Valley, North of the Danforth and West of Broadview and even north of O'Connor at various points. Their location above the Don Valley ravine provides homeowners with incredible views of the ravine. This neighbourhood gets its name from the original Todmorden Village in Yorkshire, England where the original settlers, dating back to 1795, were from. The Todmorden Mills Heritage Museum and Arts Centre is located off Pottery Road, with interpretive and cultural programs.

The lands north of O'Connor between Broadview and Woodbine Ave. belonged to George Taylor who owned various mills making paper, brick and milled wheat. The Don Valley Brick Works on the west side of the valley is all that remains of this era. On September 25, 2010, the Evergreen Brick Works celebrated its grand opening! Evergreen, a non-profit group, has developed the abandoned buildings into a cultural centre with a focus on the environment. Workshops, garden groups, special events and other programming will take place on the new site. This is an exciting time for this neighbourhood!

Homes

Like many other East York pockets, Todmorden Village boasts a variety of housing styles. West of Broadview, you'll find Victorian homes built in the late 1800's and early 1900's and Tudor and Cottage Style brick houses built in the 1930's and 1940s. Mature trees are a big presence in this area of the neighbourhood and create an extremely peaceful and natural area, rarely found this close to downtown Toronto.

Todmorden Village also includes a neighbourhood which real estate agents have coined the "Golden Triangle". This pocket is south of the Leaside bridge, north of O'Connor and at the Pape and Donlands crossroads.

Transportation

Motorist can get downtown in 10 minutes via Bloor or Bayview extension. Access to the Don Valley Parkway is via Don Mills Road, to connect to other Toronto highways. TTC buses on Broadview and O'Connor connect to the Broadview station on the Bloor-Danforth subway line, with other buses connecting to Pape and Coxwell stations.

Shopping

This community has several shopping districts, including the Pape Village district south of O'Connor and other local shops at Broadview & Pottery Road. Definitely not to be forgotten are the delicious restaurants, incredible shopping and exciting nightlife of The Danforth and Greektown.

Recreation

The community has access to kilometres of paved recreational pathways heading along the West Don River and east along Taylor Creek. To the east is the East York Community Centre with an indoor swimming pool and fitness center gym. The nearby community also has running tracks, an outdoor ice rink and two sports fields. Another great local attraction is the Todmorden Mills Heritage Museum and Arts Centre which is located off Pottery Road is one of 10 historic museums operated by Toronto Culture. The oldest house in the neighbourhood is the 1840 Taylor family homes at 20 Beechwood Crescent.
