With only a few hundred homes, it’s easy to see why this community is so tightly knit. Topham Park real Estate is located East of O’Connor and North of St. Clair. In 1944, the crown purchased the property in the upper east side of East York with the intent of developing a neighbourhood for returning War Veterans. The community is named for Victoria Cross recipient and area resident Frederick Topham. In the middle of the neighbourhood, a park that bears his name stands as gathering spot for the community. Prior to the purchase of lands by the crown, Topham Park was an apple orchard.
Homes
Topham Park homes were post war homes which were built between 1944-1946 as affordable war time housing for war labourers and returning vets. Built by the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation, this neighbourhood was unique in that it was a planned neighbourhood. Many of the homes are located on lovely cul-de-sacs and boast wide boulevards. In Topham Park you will find quaint wood framed bungalows, 1 ½ story houses with distinctive coloured siding and decorated verandas. While many of these houses have undergone significant upgrades and improvements since they were built, they have maintained the charm of these wartime houses.
Recreation
A typical day in this community will find families outside playing on the streets or at the local name-sake park Topham Park. This baseball diamond in this park is used to house its own local Topham Park Minor Softball League which is 100% volunteer run and sponsored by local business. This park also boasts two tennis courts, a children’s playground and a natural outdoor ice rink for pleasure skating. Selwyn School often hosts numerous recreational activities within the community.
Transportation
Bus lines on St. Clair Avenue and O'Connor Drive link up with the Coxwell station while bus lines on Victoria Park take you right to Victoria Park Station on the Bloor-Danforth subway line. Motorists have easy access to the downtown via the Don Valley Parkway. This commuter highway also provides a direct link to Toronto's network of commuter highways.
Shopping
The retail district at O'Connor & St. Clair and The Golden Mile shopping mall on Eglinton Ave E provide ample shops for locals. Three grocery stores can be found along Victoria Park between St. Clair and Eglinton alone! A Home Depot just north of St. Clair on O’Connor and the recent openings of numerous big box stores along Eglinton leave the residents with a number of places to spend their money!
